Internet Marketing Victoria BC and SEO – FAQ

We hope that this Internet marketing Victoria BC and SEO FAQ is truly helpful for you.  Here you’ll find answers to some of the perenial questions we face as a Victoria BC web marketing firm.  If you have any questions or concerns please post in the comment section below, or get in touch with us .

1. What is SEO?

SEO stands for search engine optimization.  And it involves numerous actions to help your site appear at the top of the search engines for the most relevant search terms (or keywords).  SEO is an integral part to a competent Internet marketing plan.

A more interesting way to put it is to think of Google as the words biggest matchmaker!  Google’s job is to connect you with people whose problems you can solve.  SEO is the process of showing Google (and the other search engines) that your site is the best match for a searcher.

2. Why should we go with your Internet marketing Victoria and SEO company?

We care about your success.  That’s core to what we do.  We work our butts off to help you succeed, and that’s the only way to make a win/win.  We LOVE our work, so that makes it easy.  Because our services are focused on your business we make our work personal, forming partnerships with all of our clients. If you want someone faceless, who won’t sit down and talk about your business with you, then don’t go with us.  If you want to hire a team that works tirelessly with YOU for your success, then we may be a good fit for each other.

3. How much do your SEO Victoria and web marketing services cost?

This question CANNOT be answered until we know your niche and have sat down to talk with you about your needs. If we were to give you a price right now, it would be based on what we might want to sell you, and not what you actually NEED.  By definition, your needs couldn’t be taken into account.  That’s not really an ethical way to do business.  Hence our prices are based on what you actually need.  And, just to be upfront, all of our business interactions are meant to be win/win.  We earnestly want you to succeed!  We are the Internet marketing and Victoria BC SEO experts who focus on your ROI.

4. Will you negotiate on your pricing?

What do you think of the businesses in your industry that drive the prices down?  Are they amiable?  Would you do business with them?

Our prices aren’t negotiable, but we do offer different ways to pay and many different levels of services.  Because we’re worth every cent.  Real marketers (and business owners) don’t compete on price and don’t haggle over dimes.  Most people don’t buy based on price alone.  If you are one of those people, however, unfortunately you won’t be working with us.  We’re worth A LOT more than the bottom end companies in our industry.  See our results page if you need proof of that.  It’s a simple marketing concept. Compete where it’s actually profitable. If you buy SEO in Victoria or Internet marketing (or anything) based solely on price then just be ready to get what you paid for.

5. Why is there a recurring cost for SEO?

There are several reasons for this.

A. Google changes every single day!  This means that your site will move, if it is not maintained for SEO. This is one of the variables we have no control over.

B. SEO is not an immediate process.  And Google seems to be slowing things down on an ongoing basis.  Properly done SEO takes some time.  You’ve heard of slow food; Google has done the same for search rankings!

C. Your competition is paying for Internet marketing and SEO. This is another reason for why your site will move (down) if you do not have SEO work done on it.

D. We won’t compete against our own work if you decide to go your own way.  That would be bad (dumb) business!  So, as much as possible we keep all of the work that we can, trying to get you a standout ROI.

E. Search engine optimization is just one part of Internet marketing .  At the end of the day, we are not selling our work but our expertise in getting you more exposure online! We get exposure for our partners.  That is our goal, and that is what we sell.  With us you’re working with a company with a finger on the pulse of the industry.

6. Do I need SEO?

This is generally a very simple question to answer.  If you have a website then yes, you NEED SEO.  Otherwise your website is not getting as much traffic as it could be getting.  At the same time, SEO is not the be all and end all of web marketing.  Victoria BC (or any city or market) provides a much more diverse web landscape then you may imagine.  Things like social media and full on video marketing campaigns, blogging, and PPC are other ways to utilize the power of the web.  Nonetheless, with few exceptions, if you are serious about boosting your business profits using the Internet, then you simply do need SEO.

Just to add to this thought, there are some markets where the sales funnel is a lot more complex than SEO alone can deal with.  In such cases SEO can only be used as a component of a full Internet marketing campaign.

7. Should I Be Using Social Media?

The quick answer is: YES, YES, YES!  Social media (marketing) is an unprecidented method for connecting with previous and new clients!  When used properly it allows you to reach people in a fairly personal way before you’ve even met!  That’s part of the beauty of the ease of sharing video and pictures.  It just makes you more visible and more real. Social media is AWESOME!  It is powerful, and every business should be using it!

“Our main love of social media is as platform for customer relations.” – Ben Sarma.

But there are a few important points to be made here.  First of all, it takes time to do social media (marketing) properly!  We can’t write all of your posts for you.  This is because the whole point of social media is for you to make real connections with clients and prospects.  So, if you don’t do it yourself (and love it the whole time), with professional guidance, then it may not be worth your time and investment.  The reality is that some business owners don’t feel that they have time to do social media.  The point we always try to make is that you could squeeze it in with just 15 minutes a day.  But if the love and the passion are not there, then there’s really little point.

8. What is Social Media (Marketing) Used for in Business?

Social media marketing is actually a highly diverse field!  It’s bigger than just Facebook, Twitter, and Linkedin.  At the same time, Facebook is the most easily monitized of the social media.  With a properly constructed Facebook page a business can promote and reach clients that actually care about what they are doing.  One of the keys here is to stand out and do something that is actually worthy of being liked and followed by your client base (or new prospects).

The big fault then of most companies with social media is that they expect it to be enough that they are just out there.  Having a Facebook fan page is NOT even a tenth as effective as having a GOOD (or Great) Facebook page.  Facebook and other social media are marketing tools that can be harnessed by Victoria BC business owners to connect with existing clients in meaningful, and as Seth Godin would say: remarkable, ways.  SMM can also be used for prospecting, again using the same principle.

9. What should/can I do to get more traffic to our site?

This is actually a very interesting question!  There are numerous ways to get traffic to your site!  And the cool part is that it doesn’t necessarily require SEO.  With an expert managed social media marketing, article marketing, and video marketing campaign it is possible to get plenty of traffic to your site.  At the end of the day, SEO is valuable for just about every business.  That said, it is hands off on your end.  If you are a business owner who is more hands on than most, there are some interesting possibilities that can be used in tandem with SEO (or on their own).

With all of that said, your site still has to convert traffic (prospects) into clients.  That is another fascinating topic in and of itself (see our Victoria web marketing SAQ for more on site conversion).

10. What do I need to do in order to get my site ranked in the search engines?

This is a question whose answer is changing every day!  Google updates their search engine algorithm, for example, at least 500 times per year.  More importantly they make some huge updates, and are always in the process of changing their search.  For search engine optimization, this means that we have a lot of work to do.

If you are looking for a short and easy answer, then you will be disappointed.  SEO is neither easy nor simple.  Although, sometimes a professional can achieve rankings quickly (if the competition is soft enough), the facts still remain: the background knowledge required for SEO and proper website optimization are vast.

There are standard elements to any core SEO project.  A site’s link profile matters, and has weight to determine how well a site will do in the search engines.  The keyword composition of the site also matters.  And, header tags, title tags, meta keywords, keyword density, and deep linking, etc. still need to be taken care of properly.  Perhaps the biggest key though, is to make content that is actually engaging and have a site that people like and can even get passionate about.  Google has always said that they are moving towards giving the best content for their users.  Social media has impacted this process in some fascinating ways!

11. How can I get more traffic to my site?

What good is a site that isn’t getting any traffic?  Well it’s not really any good at all!  Generally speaking SEO (and PPC) and social media marketing are powerful ways to get more traffic to your website.  There are other strategies you can use, depending on the nature of your site.  For example if you are a blogger you can work on building your reader base by connecting with people through other blogs and social media.  Even with a static site you can use other techniques as well.  For example, you can use article marketing and video marketing to get people to your website!  Youtube is the second most used search engine afterall.

12. What do I need to do to get more business from the web?

This question depends on what you’re already doing.  If you have a website, that isn’t ranked in the search engines.  Then you should look into search engine optimization in Victoria.  If you are ranking well (and by well I mean the first spot), and you still aren’t getting business, then you should try optimizing your site.  Whenever someone visits a site they make decisions about whether or not they should learn more about you, your business, or buying from you.  Optimizing your site means increasing the conversion rate of visitors into clients.

Please keep in mind that not all markets are created equal.  If you have a well optimized site (for conversion) and you are ranking well through a solid search engine marketing plan, then it’s time to get even more creative.  Feel free to give us a call if you are stuck in a rut with your marketing (778) 433-7441.

13. Why doesn’t SEO work overnight?

There are a few reasons why SEO doesn’t generally happen overnight.  Basically, trying to rank a site overnight would send flags to Google and the other search engines that your site is cheating.  It takes time to do SEO properly in order not to raise alarm about a site.  For example, if you just sent 100,000 social bookmarking links to your plumbing site … just think about how natural that seems to Google!  Exactly, it doesn’t seem natural at all.

With that in mind we have achieved overnight results before; however, it’s just not something that is consistent.  In a strong market for example, like real estate in Victoria or photography in Victoria, you can’t expect to jump to the first page in less than a month or two.
